07/24/2003 11:26 AM - Chad Shindle’s two out RBI single in the sixth inning scored the eventual winning run in the T-Bones’ 3-2 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs Thursday night. Shindle ended up going two for four in the contest, raising his average to .409 against Lincoln this season.

The game began unfavorably for the T-Bones with a wacky play in the top of the first inning. After Juju Foreman reached base with a lead off walk, Tony Bacci made a move to pick off Foreman. Foreman bit at the move and took off for second. Ray Brown threw the ball to second, but short stop Jack Jones misplayed the ball into center. Foreman took off for third and ran through a stop sign to head for home. Catcher Chad Shindle dropped the incoming throw from Rick Prieto, the second error on they play, to let Foreman score the first run of the game.

T-Bones starter Tony Bacci (4-5) settled down after that, allowing only five hits over seven and one-third innings. He was chased from the game after he surrendered consecutive singles to Ira Smith and Bryan Warner in the eighth inning. With runners on first and third and only one out, Jason Davis entered the game and quickly got Darren Doskocil to pop out and Josh Patton to ground out to end the threat.

All-Star D.J. Johnson came on and pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his tenth save of the season.

Eddie Pearson continued his torrid pace at the plate by going three for four. He started his night off by blasting his eighth home run of the season into right center field in the bottom of the first to even the score at 1-1. He now has eleven hits in his last four games, giving him a batting average of .647 over that span.

Newcomer David Keesee recorded his first hit in his professional career off of Lincoln starter Thomas Ford (4-4). He ripped Ford’s pitch into left field, but was thrown out trying to stretch the play into a double. He would make up for it, however, when he doubled to right center in the fifth. He would later score on a Taber Maier sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2.

The win marks Kansas City’s fourth straight over Lincoln. With Winnipeg’s 6-0 victory over Fargo on Thursday, the T-Bones took over sole possession of first place in the Western Division. They look to extend the lead tomorrow night as Jon McDonald takes on Doug Johnston in the second game of the series.
