07/15/2006 9:26 PM - SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – A big fourth inning powered the Schaumburg Flyers (34-19) to a win for the second straight game, as they downed the Kansas City T-Bones (25-28) by a 7-3 count in front of 4,624 fans at Alexian Field.

The T-Bones made the first move, taking a 1-0 lead in their half of the opening inning when leadoff batter J.D. Foust scored on an RBI single by Eddie Pearson. Foust was on the scene once again in the second inning, hitting a grounder that landed just between the third baseman and the foul line, then rolled to the corner of the outfield, allowing Chad Sosebee to score from first. After the dust settled, Foust was on second base and the T-Bones had a 2-0 lead.

Schaumburg found its way onto the scoreboard in the fourth inning, and did so in a big way. The Flyers tagged T-Bones starter Hank Woodman for four-straight singles, a double, and another single to plate five runs before even recording an out. Fortunately for Woodman, the next three batters were retired in order, but the damage had been done, and the Flyers held a 5-2 lead.

Schaumburg added another run in the fifth, as Northern League All-Star Chris Weekly scored on an RBI single to right by fellow All-Star Ben Van Iderstine, but the T-Bones tried to fight back in the sixth when Darryl Lawhorn blasted a solo homerun over the right field fence, bringing the T-Bones to within three. Foust was robbed of a two-run home run later in the inning, when Van Iderstine flashed his All-Star fielding abilities to make an overhead catch, and ending their half of the sixth inning.

The Flyers’ All-Stars struck again in the bottom of the seventh, as Rob Watson scored on a single by Eric Cole, giving Schaumburg another four-run margin at 7-3. The T-Bones loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning, but couldn’t get anybody across the plate, securing the Flyers’ 7-3 win.

The T-Bones got 6.1 innings from Woodman, who gave up 10 hits while allowing seven runs, all of which were earned. Woodman struck out four in the contest while walking three. James Morrison came in late in the seventh and gave up a hit, but retired his last five batters in order, including three-straight strikeouts in the bottom of the eighth.

Kansas City will wrap up its series with the Flyers Sunday at 12:05. Schaumburg starter Rick DeHart (4-3, 6.75) will meet a T-Bones starter who will be determined Sunday morning.
