T-Bones Hit It Out Of the Park for Their Second Straight Win

07/11/2006 10:33 PM - KANSAS CITY – The skies were dark and cloudy, but it didn’t stop anyone from seeing the knockout hitting by the Kansas City T-Bones at Tuesday night’s game. In front of a CommunityAmerica Ballpark crowd of 7,208, the T-Bones (24-26) won 11-2 over the Edmonton Cracker-Cats (21-29), thanks to stellar hitting and spectacular homeruns.

Edmonton scored quickly in the first inning as Greg Morrison singled to left field, giving Stubby Clapp time to score. Two batters later, Derek Patterson grounded out to short with the bases loaded and Ashley Freeman came home with Edmonton’s second and final run of the ballgame.

Then it was the T-Bones time to shine. Greg Jacobs scored off an Eddie Pearson grounder in the bottom of the first to put Kansas City on the board. The next two innings were scoreless, like the calm before a storm… and then the back-to-back homers poured in. J.D. Foust hit a grand slam into the visitor’s bullpen, driving home Darryl Lawhorn, Doug Dreher and Chad Sosebee. Greg Jacobs, the next batter up, followed suit and sent a homer out of the park to bring the score to 6-2 at the end of the fourth.

Lightning flashed but the rain held off for four more T-Bones runs in the bottom of the seventh. Craig Hurba scored off a Dreher single; Dreher and Sosebee then scored thanks to a triple by Foust. Jacob’s single to center was enough to send Foust home and stretch the T-Bones lead to 10-2.

The final run for Kansas City came in the bottom of the eighth when Jesse Acosta, in as a pinch runner for Pearson, scored on a wild pitch.

Foust led the T-Bones offensive attack, falling just a double shy of hitting for the cycle. The Norwood, OH native went 4-for-4 and drove in six runs.

Hank Woodman (2-0) tossed six solid innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five to pick up his second win as a T-Bone. Brett Lawson (6-2) was battered for six runs in his 3 2/3 innings of work and took the loss for Edmonton.

The T-Bones and Cracker-Cats will conclude their three-game series Wednesday at 11:05 am at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. RHP Jonathan Krysa will take the mound for Kansas City against a to be determined starter for Edmonton.

Game Notes: Tonight’s T-Bones attendance of 7,208 is the tenth largest turnout in club history and a new record for Tuesday night games… Greg Jacobs increased his hit streak to eleven games and posted his club high 19th multi-hit game of the season… Doug Dreher extended his hit streak to 11 games.
