All-Star Game Rosters Announced

07/10/2006 4:54 PM - CHICAGO – The Northern League announced Monday the starting and reserve players for its 2006 All-Star Game, which will take place at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas on Tuesday, July 18.

On the East Division squad, the host Kansas City T-Bones had four starters selected – 1B Charles Peterson, OF Greg Jacobs, DH Eddie Pearson, and starting pitcher Jonathan Krysa; however, due to a conflicting personal commitment, Pearson is unable to play in the game and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Schaumburg’s Chris Weekly. Weekly joins three Flyers teammates on the East division squad – center fielder Eric Cole, right fielder Ben Van Iderstine, and shortstop Geoff McCallum. The other two infielders come from the Joliet JackHammers, second baseman Chad Ehrnsberger and third baseman John Lackaff. Gary catcher Chris Curry rounds out the East Division starting lineup.

The first half West division champion Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks took four starting positions on the West Division All-Stars: first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke, third baseman Ruben Salazar, and outfielders Richard Austin and Joe Mathis. The Winnipeg Goldeyes also had four starters selected from their club – catcher Aaron Mendoza, outfielder Fehlandt Lentini, designated hitter Jimmy Hurst, and starting pitcher Josh Beshears. Middle infielders second baseman Manabu Kuramochi of Calgary and shortstop Stubby Clapp of Edmonton round out the West starting lineup.

Of the 20 All-Star starters in 2006, only Austin (OF for North) and Ehrnsberger (SS for South) were elected a year ago. Voting for the starters was conducted among Northern League managers, radio announcers, and media representatives from each of the eight league cities.

The All-Star managers, Gary’s Greg Tagert in the East and Fargo-Moorhead’s Doug Simunic in the West, have also selected the reserves for their respective squads (listed below).
