07/08/2006 11:04 PM - KANSAS CITY – Despite jumping out to an early four-run lead, the Kansas City T-Bones (22-25) dropped a 6-5 decision in 11 innings to the Schaumburg Flyers (30-17) Saturday evening in front of a crowd on 7,224 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Schaumburg scored first in the top off the second when Chris Draska’s single to right sent Ben Van Iderstine home.

However, Kansas City didn’t let much time pass before scoring themselves, racking up three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Eddie Pearson singled to right, bringing Greg Jacobs home and putting men on first and second. Soon after, Doug Dreher hit a long double, giving Charles Peterson and Pearson time to score.

Two more runs came in the bottom of the fifth with another Pearson single, sending Jacobs and Peterson home and increasing the T-Bones lead to four. Pearson’s two-hit game was enough to break Rick Prieto’s franchise record for career hits (311).

Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last long when, in the top of the sixth, the Flyers decided to even the score. Eric Cole tripled, allowing Chris Weekly to score. Cole then came in to score when Van Iderstine grounded out. Nelson Gord doubled soon after, sending home Josue Lopez and Tim Marks to end the inning with the score at five all.

The game went into extra innings as neither team was able to score in regulation time. Gord reached first on Doug Dreher’s fielding error leading off the eleventh and then scored on a Weekly single to center to give the Flyers a 6-5 lead. Flyers closer Nate Cotton retired the T-Bones in order to close out the victory and pick up his tenth save.

Dan Jackson (4-1) pitched a perfect tenth inning to earn the victory for Schaumburg. James Morrison (3-2) suffered the tough luck defeat, allowing an unearned run in his one inning of work.

Game Notes: After four years, Kansas City T-Bones lifetime attendance reached 803,443 at tonight’s game, an average of 5,217 fans per game… Jonathan Krysa completed seven innings for his seventh straight start…
