Jacobs Drives T-Bones Past Joliet, 6-3

07/04/2006 9:11 PM - JOLIET, Ill. – Greg Jacobs hit a two-run homer and delivered a decisive three-run double in the top of the seventh inning to lead the Kansas City T-Bones (20-23) past the Joliet JackHammers (14-29) by a score of 6-3 Tuesday evening at Silver Cross Field.

In the top of the third inning, new T-Bone J.D. Foust, just acquired in a trade with the JackHammers, singled to center and stole second base off Joliet starter Brad Morenko. Jacobs then hooked a Morenko offering just inside the right-field foul pole for his seventh homer of the season to give the T-Bones an early 2-0 lead.

Kansas City starter Jonathan Krysa held Joliet scoreless into the fifth before Joliet struck for three runs. Will Henderson led-off with a double and came home on a Dennis Blackmon single to right-center to cut the margin to 2-1. Gary Harris followed with a single to right to put runners on first and second, before John Lackaff’s grounder to third prompted an errant throw on a double-play attempt from Brandon Jones to load the bases. Chad Ehrnsberger followed with a two-run double to right field to give the JackHammers a 3-2 lead.

The T-Bones grabbed the lead for good in the seventh, as Doug Dreher singled off reliever Derrick Ellison with two men on to load the bases. Jones’ mishandled grounder to third scored the tying run and set up Jacobs three-run double down the left field line with two out to give the T-Bones a 6-3 advantage.

Byron Embry worked a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two batters to earn his 10th save of the season.

Krysa (7-2) completed eight innings to earn his league-leading seventh win, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out two. Morenko (3-5) took the loss for Joliet.

The T-Bones and JackHammers will meet in game two of their three-game set tomorrow evening at 7:05 p.m. Greg Bicknell (4-5, 3.83) will oppose Joliet left-hander Luis Villarreal (4-4, 2.98). Be sure to catch all the action on “The Light” 1030 AM or live on the web at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
