07/02/2006 6:30 PM - EDMONTON – The Edmonton Cracker-Cats (19-23) outlasted the T-Bones (19-23) in a slugfest for the second time in three games Sunday afternoon to take the rubber match of the clubs’ three-game series, 14-8 before a crowd of 1,009 at TELUS Field.

After Edmonton took the early lead in the bottom of the first on Terrence McClain’s two-run double, the T-Bones jumped right back into the contest with three runs of their own in the second inning, highlighted by Chad Sosebee’s two-run double. Jesse Acosta added an RBI single to bring home Sosebee, and the T-Bones looked to be in business.

The lead would be short-lived, though, as Edmonton struck for seven runs in the bottom of the frame to take a commanding 9-3 lead. Greg Morrison and Derek Patterson each delivered two-run singles, and Charlie Lisk drove home two runs with a triple off reliever Eric Ebers to give the home team a six-run advantage.

Kansas City chipped away at the lead, scoring four times in the third, as Pat Magness’ run-scoring single drove home Brandon Jones for the T-Bones first run of the inning. Craig Hurba followed with a three-run homer to cut the deficit to 9-7. In the fourth, Sosebee tripled and scored on Acosta’s sacrifice-fly to bring KC to within a single run.

The T-Bones were primed to tie the game or take the lead with one-out and the bases loaded in the fifth, but James Beever grounded into a 6-3 double-play to end the scoring threat.

The Cracker-Cats continued adding to their advantage, scoring a pair of runs in the fifth- one on a Morrison fielder’s choice and another on McClain’s second RBI-double of the day. After adding another run in the seventh, Edmonton put the game away for good in the eighth on RBI-singles by Lisk and Chris Becker.

Buddy Blair (1-6) took the loss for Kansas City after surrendering nine runs on six hits and three walks in just an inning and two-thirds. Jim Harrison (1-1) was credited with the win for Edmonton.
