Homers Power T-Bones to 7-2 Win

07/01/2006 10:15 PM - EDMONTON – The Kansas City T-Bones (19-22) used three longballs and eight innings of solid mound work by Greg Bicknell to hold off the host Cracker-Cats (18-23), 7-2, in front of 3,107 at TELUS Field in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

Bicknell (W, 4-5) scattered eight hits in earning his fourth win of the season and franchise-best 33rd as a T-Bone. The veteran righthander worked out of trouble all night long, retiring the Cracker-Cats in order just once, in the sixth inning. But for the fifth time this season – and fourth consecutive start – Bicknell was a workhorse, lasting eight innings.

Kansas City was on the board first in the contest, with Pat Magness’ solo shot in the second giving the T-Bones a 1-0 margin. Edmonton scratched an unearned run out in the fourth, but the T-Bones scored six more times before the Cats would tally again. Chad Sosebee’s fifth-inning double, one of two hits on the night for the Kansas City shortstop, plated two runs and gave the T-Bones a 3-1 lead.

The T-Bones weren’t done. Eddie Pearson socked a two-run shot to right-center in the sixth against Edmonton starter Jeff Little (L, 2-5), who allowed six runs in his six innings. Two batters later, Craig Hurba smashed his fourth homer of the season to give the T-Bones a 6-1 lead.

Little has now started twice against the T-Bones in 2006, and has allowed a total of thirteen runs in his two starts, both losses.

Cracker-Cat reliever Hayden Gardner allowed the seventh run of the game to the T-Bones in the eighth, with Magness driving in Charles Peterson with a single to right. T-Bone reliever Logan McElwain worked a scoreless ninth inning, allowing only a base hit.

Game Notes: Eddie Pearson’s homer was his 62nd as a T-Bone, upping the franchise career record… Pending the completion of the Schaumburg-Winnipeg contest, the T-Bones were five games back of Schaumburg in the East Division with seven games remaining in the first half.
