Edmonton outduels T-Bones to take series opener, 10-607/01/2006 1:25 AM - EDMONTON The Kansas City T-Bones (18-22) couldnt hold off the hard charging Edmonton offense Friday evening, as the Cracker-Cats (18-22) scored in every inning except the first to claim game one of the two clubs three-game series, 10-6 before a crowd of 6,656 at TELUS Field.
Kansas City jumped out to an early lead, scoring three times in the second inning off Edmonton starter Brett Lawson, highlighted by Doug Drehers two-run double. Chad Sosebee added an RBI-single to give the T-Bones a 3-0 lead. The Cracker-Cats would respond with six runs of their own before the T-Bones would score again in the sixth on Drehers bases-loaded walk. After answering the T-Bones rally with a run of their own in the bottom of the second, the Cracker-Cats plated two more in the third, capped by Greg Morrisons run-scoring triple off T-Bones starter James Morrison to tie the ballgame. Edmonton took the lead in the fourth on a Charlie Lisk ground-out, then added two more runs in the fifth, highlighted by Jeremy Wares lead-off home run, to take a 6-3 lead. The T-Bones crept to within one run in the seventh on Eddie Pearsons eighth homer of the season- a two-run shot that moved the T-Bones DH into sole possession of first place on the franchises career home run list (61). They would get no closer, though, as Edmonton answered once again in the bottom of the frame on RBI doubles by Derek Patterson and Chris Becker to extend the margin back to three runs. Edmonton added an insurance run in the eighth on Terrence McClains run-scoring infield single to finish the scoring. Morrison (3-1) suffered the loss in his first start as a T-Bone, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits over five innings of work. Lawson improved to 6-1 on the season after completing 5 1/3 innings and allowing four runs, while Scott Richmond finished the contest to pick up his first save of the season. The T-Bones and Cracker-Cats will square off in a Canada Day contest Saturday at 8:05 p.m. from TELUS Field. Kansas City will send RHP Greg Bicknell (3-5, 4.13) to the mound, while Edmonton will counter with RHP Jeff Little (2-4, 8.50).
