T-Bones Snap Skid With 4-2 Win

05/30/2006 10:37 PM - WINNIPEG – The Kansas City T-Bones picked up their second win in five games on their current trip, beating the host Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-2 at CanWest Global Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The win came in unorthodox fashion, as all four Kansas City runs were unearned.

T-Bone starter Larry Robles (7.0 IP, 2 R, 7 H, 1 SO, 6 BB) earned the win to improve to 2-1. Robles threw 116 pitches in the seven-inning effort, which gave the T-Bones their fourth win of the season.

Kansas City opened the scoring in the second. Craig Hurba tripled to left-center to lead things off, and after Phil Sobkow struck out the next two batters, third baseman Sean Walsh kicked an Eric Vega grounder and Hurba scored. Winnipeg tied it in the fourth against Robles when Jimmy Hurst, who had doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, scored on a double play.

The T-Bones again took the lead in the fifth inning, when Doug Dreher, who had walked to lead off the frame, scored on a wild pitch. Dreher’s run was the first of three the T-Bones would score on wild pitches, as they scored two on consecutive pitches in the seventh against Goldeye reliever Howard Pence (2.1 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 2 SO, 2 BB). Pence, who allowed two runs in the seventh for the final margin, took the loss in relief to fall to 1-1.

The T-Bones got two innings of perfect relief from two fireballers, with Caleb Balbuena pitching in the eighth before giving way to Byron Embry, who earned his second save of the season.

Notes: Four T-Bones had two hits in the game, with Blake Whealy, Charles Peterson, Eddie Pearson and Hurba each enjoying multi-hit games… Brandon Jones, who played stellar defense at third, also chipped in with a base hit, as did Chad Sosebee... Greg Bicknell will start for the T-Bones tomorrow night at 7:00 pm in Winnipeg… the game will be carried live on “The Light” 1030 AM in Kansas City and on the Internet at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
