T-Bones Drop Third Straight

05/29/2006 10:38 PM - WINNIPEG – It was more of the same for the Kansas City T-Bones Monday night at CanWest Global Park, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes cruised to a 10-7 win. The loss is the third in a row for the T-Bones and drops their overall record to 3-8.

The T-Bones jumped ahead in the top of the first when Eric Vega singled to lead-off the contest, then came home on a Charles Peterson double for a 1-0 Kansas City lead. Winnipeg quickly countered with a run of its own, when Jimmy Hurst’s RBI ground-out brought home Fehlandt Lentini to knot the score at 1-1.

T-Bones’ catcher Craig Hurba clubbed his first homer of the season in the second inning to regain the lead for the visitors, but Winnipeg would get to Kansas City starter Jonathan Krysa for two runs on four hits in the third, highlighted by Harry Berrios’ RBI single.

Hurst provided the decisive blow in Winnipeg’s five-run fourth with his third home run of the season- a grand slam- to extend the Goldeyes’ lead to 8-2.

Goldeyes’ starter Glenn Bott (1-1) worked seven strong innings to pick up his first win of the season, and Josh Kite retired the final two T-Bones to earn his first save. Krysa (1-2), who gave up eight runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings, shouldered the loss for the T-Bones.

The T-Bones and Goldeyes will meet in the second game of their four-game series Tuesday evening at 7:00. Right-hander Larry Robles will get the starting nod for the T-Bones, while lefty Joe Brown (1-1) will take the mound for Winnipeg.

Game Notes: Eddie Pearson, who hit .409 with a home run and four RBI last week, was the T-Bones’ nominee for Northern League Player of the Week, while Jonathan Krysa received the nomination for Pitcher of the Week. The Right-hander struck out six and allowed just one run on six hits in eight innings to defeat Joliet, 6-1 on May 24 to snap the clubs’ five-game losing streak…tonight’s loss dropped the T-Bones’ record to 2-6 on the road this season.
