T-Bones Tagged in Loss to RedHawks, 10-3

05/11/2006 10:31 PM - Fargo-Moorhead's outfielders drove in the team's first four runs to take the lead and seal the victory as the RedHawks picked up their first pre-season win of the year, 10-3, in front of 1,815 at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday against the visiting Kansas City T-Bones.

Kansas City posted the first run of the windy evening, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but Fargo-Moorhead quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Joe Mathis led off in the bottom of the third with a walk, followed by a Brent Krause, RBI triple and a Richard Austin RBI double, as the RedHawks grabbed a 2-1 lead and never trailed again in the game.

The RedHawks added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run home run to left-center field by Mathis that drove in Graig Badger who had reached on a base on balls.

Kansas City pulled with two runs in the top of the seventh inning as the T-Bones posted four singles in the inning off of relief pitcher Brian Hewitt. The RedHawks returned the favor with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-3 lead.

The RedHawks tacked on another three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Brad Vericker hit a bases-clearing double. Vericker went 1-for-2 on the night with 4 RBIs.

Offensively, Krause went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and a walk. Todd George got the start for the RedHawks and pitched for 4.0 innings, giving up just one run on five hit. Mick Lefort picked up the win for Fargo-Moorhead while Kansas City's David Viane was charged with the loss.
