Saltdogs Stymie T-Bone Rally, 5-3

08/10/2005 11:15 PM - In spite of home runs from David Segui and Greg Jacobs, the Kansas City T-Bones fell to the Lincoln Saltdogs, 5-3, at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Neb. The T-Bones had the bases loaded and none out in the ninth inning, but could not score against Lincoln reliever Wes O'Brien (S, 1). The game had been delayed by an hour and a half due to rain.

Segui's homer in the second inning against Lincoln starter Humberto Cardenas (W, 4-4) gave the T-Bones a 2-1 lead. Cardenas would work in and out of trouble throughout the night.

Cardenas was perhaps most on the ropes in the sixth inning when he allowed a solo homer to Jacobs to lead off the frame, followed by a Ray Brown double and a Segui single. But Mike Brown's liner to Cardenas was gloved by the pitcher just off his hip, and he threw to first to double off Segui and stifle the threat.

Lincoln got two homers from unlikely sources against starter Jon McDonald (L, 5-4): a solo shot from shortstop Albenis Machado, his fifth of the season and second in as many nights, which tied the game at two in the third, and a two-run homer from Mike Goss which gave Lincoln a 4-2 lead in the fifth. Goss' homer, his fourth of the season, was also his second in the series.

Lincoln added an insurance run in the sixth on Kevin Sullivan's run-scoring triple, his third of the season. The T-Bones threatened in the ninth, but Lincoln held on for the win.
