JackHammers Turn Five-Run Deficit Into One-Run Win, 7-6

08/05/2005 11:36 PM - Joliet, IL—The JackHammers (6-15, 29-40) dug themselves a big hole Friday night against the Kansas City T-Bones (8-13, 35-32) but they had enough resiliency to overcome a 6-1 deficit. Joliet picked up five runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at six. The JackHammers picked up the winning run in the eighth inning when Dan Firlit singled home Sam Flamont, who had reached on a walk. Joliet took the first game of the series 7-6 over the T-Bones. The JackHammers have now won three games in a row, while the T-Bones have lost four straight.

In that big five-run frame, Joliet singled six times. Brad Flanders and Matt McCay each singled in runs to cut the Kansas City lead to 6-3. Flanders later scored on a Brandon Jones fielding error, and an Eric Blakely single cut the lead to one. To cap the inning, the JackHammers tied the game at 6 on a Jose Amado single which scored Firlit.

Joliet reliever Kyle Zaleski (2-1) picked up the win for the JackHammers, retiring Sean Flynn and Chad Sosebee with the bases loaded to get out of a no-out, runners at the corners situation.

The JackHammers got their first run of the game in the fifth inning when Flanders doubled home Jayson Drobiak to cut the Kansas City lead in half.

David Segui singled home a run for Kansas City in the sixth inning to give the T-Bones a 3-1 lead, followed by a three-run shot by Cody Nowlin to make the score 6-1 before the Joliet comeback.

Amad Stephens pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his ninth save of the season. Stephens struck out Segui to seal the victory for the JackHammers.

Allen Levrault started the game for the JackHammers and went five innings giving up five earned runs. It was his first start at home this year for Joliet.
