Righthander Willie Glen set a career high for strikeouts with ten, allowing just three runs on seven hits in eight innings of work, as the Gary-SouthShore RailCats beat the Kansas City T-Bones 6-3 at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, IN.

David Viane started for the T-Bones and allowed the first batter to reach base by way of an error, but retired the next nine batters before a three-run fourth inning by Gary. Steve Haake’s single scored Scott Samuels, and a Jose Yepez sacrifice fly brought home Haake before an Alex Taylor single scored the third run of the inning.

Greg Jacobs tied the game with a two-run double in the fifth inning, but Viane allowed three more runs to the RailCats in the seventh inning, including a two-run homer by Anthony Iapoce to break the tie and give Gary the deciding runs in the game.

Derek Lopez worked a scoreless ninth inning, allowing a leadoff single to David Segui before inducing a double play grounder from Mike Brown. Lopez retired Brandon Jones on a fly out to left to end the game for his twelfth save.

Tomorrow night, Jonathan Krysa will take the mound for the T-Bones in the second game of the series against nine-game winner Quintin Oldenburg. The game, which starts at 7:05 pm, can be heard on KCKN 1340 AM and www.tbonesbaseball.com.
