T-Bones Sign Outfielder Jacobs

06/21/2005 11:56 PM - The Kansas City T-Bones announced Tuesday the signing of Triple-A veteran Greg Jacobs. Jacobs, 28, most recently played in affiliated minor league baseball in the Pacific Coast League with the Tacoma Rainiers in 2004-05.

The 5-10, 190-pound Jacobs spent the past two seasons in the Seattle Mariners system. In 2004, Jacobs split the season between the Class AA San Antonio Missions and Class AAA Tacoma Rainiers, hitting .315 with 14 HR and 61 RBI in 105 games.

Jacobs first played in the Seattle system in 2003, starting the season with the Class A Inland Empire 66'ers. With Inland Empire, he hit a league-best .357 in 95 games before being promoted to San Antonio, where he hit .310. Jacobs was voted as a California League All-Star outfielder and a Baseball America High Class A All-Star.

Jacobs was signed by the Mariners out of the independent Western League, where he paced the league in hitting (.380) and runs batted in (91) while socking eighteen home runs as a member of the Long Beach Breakers in 2002.

Originally a 1998 13th round pick of the Anaheim Angels out of Cal State-Fullerton, Jacobs was a pitcher for his first four pro seasons, compiling a 10-13 record with a 5.49 ERA in 144 appearances. As a hitter, Jacobs joins the T-Bones with career numbers of .339 and 45 HR and 238 RBI in 356 pro games.

"We're excited to have a player of Greg's caliber," said T-Bones manager Al Gallagher. "He adds a new element to our offense and will be a great complement to Ray Brown and Eddie Pearson."
