Saturday night in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, former Royal Shawn Sedlacek and T-Bone hurler Jonathan Krysa hooked up in a classic pitcher’s duel. The CanWest Global Park crowd of 7,078 saw the hometown Goldeyes prevail in the game, 2-1.

Winnipeg used a little bit of two-out lightning in the ninth, with two consecutive singles by number nine batter Matt Gunning and leadoff man Ralph Santana moving Max Poulin along. Poulin, who had reached base on a fielder’s choice, scored the winning run and snapped a three-game losing streak for the Goldeyes.

Winnipeg got on the board first in the fifth inning when Gunning’s two-out grounder to Mike Brown was mishandled by the T-Bone second baseman. Donnie Ross scored from second base and Winnipeg had the lead.

The T-Bones weren’t going to go down without a fight, however. Rick Prieto, who had doubled, scored the tying run in the eighth inning on a single by Ray Brown to knot the game up at one.

Krysa (L, 1-5), in his best start of the season, struck out six in 8 2/3 innings. But going against Sedlacek (W, 2-2), who was at the top of his game against a tough T-Bone lineup, was a difficult assignment for Krysa. Sedlacek didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight while scattering eight hits.

Notes: Jorge Moreno’s ninth-inning single extended his hitting streak to fourteen games… Eddie Pearson, who was hitless to end his six-game hitting streak, didn’t drive in a run for the first time in nine games… Sedlacek made fourteen starts for the Royals in 2002.
