The T-Bones defeated the Calgary Vipers 9-7 for their sixth consecutive victory Monday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. KC has won 9 of their last 10 games and owns a division-best 12-5 overall mark.

T-Bone starter Jonathan Krysa earned his first victory of the season. The righty allowed two runs, struck out five and allowed six hits over six strong innings. Both of the Viper runs were unearned.


Down two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the T-Bones scored their first run on a solo shot to left off the bat of Chad Hill. The homer to left was the first run allowed by Viper starter Jeff Brewer. Prior to Hill's round-tripper, Brewer held the T-Bones scoreless over the first four frames while striking out seven. Rookie third baseman Brandon Jones continued his torrid hitting streak with his fifth home run of the year in the sixth. Just a night after beating Schaumburg with a walk-off dinger in the eleventh, Jones collected three hits along with his game-tying homer. KC's four-run sixth was capped by a two-run double from Ray Brown which extended the margin to 5-2.

After entering the contest with a 0.00 ERA, reliever J.C. Ortiz left a little shaken. The lefty surrendered three home runs and allowed the Vipers to come within two runs before being pulled. The lefty allowed four runs in 1.1 innings of work.

In the bottom of the eighth the T-Bones were able to add some valuable insurance runs. Left fielder Cody Nowlin singled home Rick Prieto who reached via walk, one of his three in the game. With the bases loaded, all-purpose man Chad Sosebee was hit by a pitch that gave Eddie Pearson the free pass home. The very next batter, Nowlin then scored on a wild pitch by reliever Kevin Lee which gave the T-Bones a 9-5 lead.

Kansas City needed the four-run margin, as Ortiz would surrender a two-run ninth-inning homer to Viper J.D. Foust for the final count. After Ortiz left the game, Derek Forbes earned his sixth save in seven chances by retiring two of the next three batters.

Notes: Eddie Pearson extended his hitting streak to 10 games with his fourth inning single...Mike Brown, Jones, and Sosebee all collected three hits in the game... eight of nine T-Bones in the lineup had at least one hit in the game.
