KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones nearly clinched the sweep over the Goldeyes, but Winnipeg fought back to win, 4-3, in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The T-Bones looked to sweep the series on a hot and muggy Sunday afternoon, but fell short in extra innings. Falling down 1-0 in the second inning off of an RBI single by catcher, Mason Katz, Kansas City took advantage of mid-game errors by the Goldeyes to take the lead.

Right fielder, Chantz Mack, advanced to first off of single, but an error by left fielder, Josh Romanski, allowed the T-Bones to move around the bases and bring in two runs for the lead.

Winnipeg’s Reggie Abercrombie was fighting to get the win and avoid being swept. The center fielder launched a solo home run to right field to even the score at 2-2 going into the bottom of the ninth.

Abercrombie was single-handedly going to comeback in this game. In the 10th inning, an error by third baseman, Jordan Edgerton, would allow first baseman, David Bergin, to score and Winnipeg to take the 3-2 lead.

Kansas City wanted the sweep just as much as the Goldeyes were trying to avoid it. Shortstop, Jerome Pena, nailed a solo home run to right field, tying the game back up at 3-3 in the bottom of the tenth.

A wild pitch from right-handed pitcher, Grant Sides (1-1, 1.83), brought in the Goldeyes’ winning run. After stealing third base, American Association batting leader, Wes Darvill was able to score off of the wild pitch giving Winnipeg the 4-3 win.

Right-handed pitcher, Ryan Chaffee (1-2, 1.75), took the win for Winnipeg and Sides’ wild pitch cost him the loss. The Goldeyes’ Evan Rutckyj, a left-handed pitcher, tossed the save for Winnipeg.

Matt Sergey (2-3, 3.95), a right-handed pitcher, will face off against Texas on Wednesday, July 26.

The T-Bones (34-26) will have a two-day All-Star break and will then resume their 10-game homestand on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Texas Airhogs (25-35) at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
