T-Bones Clinch in 10-1 Win!

09/04/2004 1:33 PM - With back-to-back home runs in the fourth from former RailCats Phil Thompson and Mike Brown, as well as a six-hit complete game from righty Greg Bicknell, the Kansas City T-Bones clinched the South Division second-half title with a 10-1 win over the Gary-Southshore RailCats in front of 6,557 at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, IN.

Mike Brown drove in three runs in the game, two on the homer to left and the third coming on a double to left-center in the sixth which scored Cody Nowlin, who had reached on an error. The 6-8 batters for the T-Bones, Mike Brown, Thompson, and Matt Ceriani, accounted for the first six of Kansas City’s runs driven in, as well as six of their fifteen base hits.

Bicknell (13-3) got the win, his thirteenth of the season, while earning his fifth complete game, and starter Travis Kerber (2-8) took the loss for Gary.

The T-Bones started the scoring in the second inning, when Ceriani’s two-out double scored Phil Thompson, who had singled. Ceriani’s double was the first of his two two-out hits in the ballgame, both of which drove in runs for the T-Bones. Kansas City would score three in the fourth on the longballs from Thompson and Brown.

Bicknell walked a season-high three in the game and struck out five. He was helped on defense by Thompson, whose throw from right field on a third-inning single by Scott Samuels cut down speedy Anthony Iapoce with what was, at the time, the game-tying run. Gary’s lone run in the game came in the sixth inning on a solo shot to left by cleanup man Hipolito Martinez.

Kansas City capped off the scoring in the ninth inning, with a three-run shot off the bat of former RailCat Chad Hill, as well as a solo shot from Ray Brown against reliever Bryan Shartzer.
