KANSAS CITY, Kan. – It took two days and two late comebacks until Jake Blackwood delivered a two-run single with two outs in the ninth that gave Kansas City a 9-8 win over Amarillo on Friday afternoon in a continuation of Thursday’s suspended game at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Before the rains came Thursday night, Amarillo put together back-to-back three-run innings against Kansas City relievers and turned a 4-0 deficit into a 6-4 lead with a light rain, the T-Bones were down to their final out in the seventh with C.J. Henry on base. Vladimir Frias, who already had three RBI singles earlier in the game, lined a two-run home run to right-center that tied the game at 6-6.

Kansas City reliever Kris Regas walked Amarillo’s lead-off batter in the eighth as the skies opened and caused play to be suspended.

When play resumed, the Thunderheads scored two runs in the top of the eighth, and had Kansas City down to its final out with the bases loaded and Blackwood, a Kansas City native, at the plate. Blackwood lined a single to center off Amarillo reliever Kyle Bellows that scored Frias and Joe Rapp.

The game marked Kyle DeVore’s first start of the season for Kansas City after coming off the disabled list on Thursday. DeVore didn’t allow a run and gave up only two hits in five innings.

Kansas City (3-10) and Amarillo (6-7) continued their three-game series later Friday night. Tickets for Saturday’s series finale at 7:05 p.m. are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
