T-Bones take the win in wild battle

05/26/2013 10:58 PM -
After four lead changes, the Kansas City T-Bones broke a four-game losing streak in a wild 13-10 win over Gary SouthShore in front of 5,512 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Sunday night.

Five Kansas City homers in the first two innings gave the T-Bones their first lead of the series against the RailCats, but Gary SouthShore answered the Kansas City scoring with one in the third and one in the fourth before sending nine to the plate in a five-run fifth inning. Gary SouthShore’s Adam Klein hit a bases clearing triple that widened the lead, 9-7, and then scored on a wild pitch from T-Bones reliever Ethan Cole.

In spite of a three-run deficit, the T-Bones rallied in the bottom of the seventh. Kansas City drew three consecutive walks before Trevor Coleman hit a two-run, pinch-hit single that brought the T-Bones to within one. The RailCats’ Marco Gonzalez walked Felix Molina with the bases loaded, tying the game at 10-10.

In the bottom of the eighth, Kansas City’s Matt Padgett, who went two-for-three with a three-run homer in the second inning, led off with a double. After two walks, Jairo Perez hit a two-run single to center. The T-Bones added another run for the final tally.

Jhonny Montoya (3) retired the side with two strikeouts, securing the win for Kansas City.

“It’s a huge win, especially with the way things have been going,” said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. “To let it slip away but then fight back and win gives us some momentum on the road.”

The T-Bones have Monday off before beginning a three-game series at Grand Prairie on Tuesday morning at 10:30.
