T-Bones struggle in loss to Lincoln

05/08/2013 7:44 AM -

A night after pounding out 11 hits and six runs, the Kansas City T-Bones had half as many errors as hits on Tuesday night in a 5-3 exhibition loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Kansas City spotted Lincoln three runs before getting its first hit — a single by Michael Thomas — with two outs in the third inning. The T-Bones, which ended the game with six hits, scored their first run an inning later when Justin Bass scored on a Ray Sadler single.

The biggest difference between Monday night’s 6-0 win over the Lee’s Summit Monarchs and Tuesday’s loss to Lincoln was on defense. With a 1-0 lead, the Saltdogs scored two runs in the third inning, thanks in part to two Kansas City errors. The T-Bones committed three miscues in the game.

“We had sloppy defense,” said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. “We didn’t take care of the ball and didn’t make a couple routine plays that we should’ve made.

“You don’t like to make errors like that, but with this being exhibition, those are teaching tools I can use.”

The T-Bones will head to Wichita and Lincoln for exhibition play before returning to CommunityAmerica Ballpark to face the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks next Monday night at 6:05. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
