T-Bones Drop Second Straight at Fargo, 9-3

08/28/2011 3:02 PM -

An early four-run deficit proved too much for the Kansas City T-Bones (47-51) to overcome on Sunday afternoon as they dropped the second game of a season-ending four-game series to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (43-55), 9-3, at Newman Outdoor Field.

Fargo struck for a single run against Reid Santos (8-6) on an RBI single from Jesse Hoorelbeke in the first before scoring three times on four hits in the second for an early 4-0 lead. An RBI double by C.J. Retherford highlighted the attack in the second.

Both teams picked up a run in the fourth before a two-run home run by Kala Ka’aihue (pictured) pulled the T-Bones within two against Jake Laber (10-7) in the fifth, 5-3. Carlo Cota responded with a two-run blast of his own in the bottom half of the frame to push the score to 7-3.

Santos allowed seven runs on 12 hits over five innings for Kansas City in the loss. Ka’aihue finished three-for-five with a home run and two RBI to pace the offense.

Fargo added single tallies in the sixth and eighth innings against reliever Steven Stewart to cap the score at 9-3.

Laber picked up his 10th win of the season after allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out eight in five and two-thirds innings. Zach Penprase went four-for-four with four runs scored and an RBI for the RedHawks. Seven of Fargo’s nine batters collected multiple hits as they outhit the T-Bones, 18-10.

Kris Johnson (5-3, 3.28) gets the call for Kansas City on Monday night opposite Dan Blewett (2-4, 8.19) and the RedHawks. First pitch is set for 7:02. To catch all the action while the team is on the road listen live on KUDL Radio Bach 1660 AM or online at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
