Pearson Named NL Player of the Week

06/28/2004 3:22 PM - June 28, 2004

KANSAS CITY – T-Bones designated hitter Eddie Pearson was named Northern League Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. He is the first Kansas City player to receive such honors this season.

Pearson, the league’s reigning MVP, batted .500 (10-for-20) with three home runs, five runs scored, and 14 RBI in five games last week as the T-Bones went 3-2. The slugger drove in five runs in a setback at Schaumburg last Monday before knocking in four runs in KC’s last game, a 10-7 victory over visiting Sioux Falls that gave the T-Bones their first home series win of the season.

Pearson, who was named NL Player of the Month last July, is making a strong bid to take home those honors for the month of June as well. Pearson is batting .443 (39-for-88) with 14 extra-base hits, including 10 doubles, 17 runs scored and 30 RBI in 23 June games.

Pearson is the league’s leader in RBI (38) and is second with a .393 batting average. He is also ranked in the top four of several other categories, including hits (53), .on-base percentage (.454), and slugging percentage (.652).

The T-Bones open a three-game series against Joliet tonight at CommunityAmerica Ballpark beginning at 7:05 p.m.
