T-Bones Doubled Up by AirHogs, 8-4

The Kansas City T-Bones (6-4) lost the rubber match of their three-game series against the Grand Prairie AirHogs (6-4), 8-4, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Sunday night.

With 3,632 on hand, the Kansas City T-Bones gained an early 4-0 advantage against John Brownell (2-0) in the bottom of the first inning. The first two batters reached safely before a catcher’s interference call during Rico Washington’s at bat loaded the bases with nobody out. Ray Sadler then drew a walk, forcing in the first run of the inning. Brian Joynt followed two batters later with a sacrifice fly, and Jonathan Jaspe added an RBI single for the third run of the frame. Nick Farnsworth then forced in the final run of the inning with a bases-loaded walk.

The score remained the same until the top of the fourth when Grand Prairie pulled within one against Mike Rocco (0-2). The first three batters of the inning reached safely, with Greg Porter driving in the first run with an RBI single. Tyler Henley drove in the final two runs two batters later with a double. The AirHogs chased Rocco in the fifth, scoring four runs on five hits and one error to take a 7-4 lead. David Thomas tied the game at four with an RBI single, starting a string of four straight hits that ended Rocco’s night.

Rocco suffered the loss after allowing seven runs on nine hits over four and one-thirds innings. Brownell earned the win for Grand Prairie, surrendering four unearned runs on eight hits over five and one-thirds frames.

Steven Stewart allowed one hit over two and two-thirds innings of relief for Kansas City. The AirHogs picked up one unearned run off Rusty Jones in the eighth to cap the score at 8-4. Newcomer Wade Morrison threw a scoreless ninth for the T-Bones to finish the game.

Kansas City has an off-day on Monday before heading to Lincoln for a quick three-game series against the Saltdogs. The T-Bones return home on Friday, May 27 when they start a three-game series against the St. Paul Saints.
