Sharp McDonald Lands Flyers, 10-3

06/20/2004 2:50 PM - SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Schaumburg Flyers (21-9) were held in check by Jon McDonald and the Kansas City T-Bones (11-19) on Sunday afternoon at Alexian Field as the Flyers fell 10-3. McDonald (3-2) went the distance for the T-Bones, giving up three runs and seven hits. The Lincoln Saltdogs can move to within a game and a half of the Flyers in the Northern League South Division with a win at home on Sunday night.

The Flyers scored a run in the second inning and then scored two in the fifth when LF Justin Hendrickson went deep to left field with 3B Chris Weekly aboard. The Flyers only had a man in scoring position one time after the fifth. RF Ben Van Iderstine led off the seventh with a double to left, but he was not able to advance in the inning. Van Iderstine has now reached base via a hit or a walk in every game this season. That is an ongoing team record.

Flyers starter Mike Ott (0-2) took the loss after going five innings and giving up six runs, five earned, on seven hits. T-Bones 2B Chad Hill hit a two-run homer in the fourth to put Kansas City ahead 5-1. It might have done more damage, but Weekly made a diving stab to his left on a grounder by C Matt Ceriani to start a 5-4-3 double play that left only one man on for Hill.

Three Flyers relievers gave up six hits and four runs over the final four innings. The teams conclude their four-game series at Alexian Field at 7:05 PM on Monday night. Brett Gray (2-2) will start for the Flyers against Robby Read (0-0) in his T-Bones debut.
