06/17/2004 2:37 PM - KANSAS CITY – The Goldeyes banged out 14 hits and swiped six bases in a 9-2 victory over the T-Bones Thursday afternoon. The game was played in front of 6,005 fans – including more than 2,500 local youths – as part of Camp Day at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The Goldeyes (16-10) received exceptional production from their first two hitters in the lineup as Pat Scalabrini recorded three singles and two stolen bases, and Max Poulin collected a pair of singles, three walks, and two swipes of his own. Winnipeg starter Donovan Graves (2-2) held the T-Bones to two runs on five hits over six innings. Reliever Scott Anderson pitched the final three innings for the Goldeyes to pick up his first save of the season.

Kansas City’s Caleb Balbuena (1-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering four runs – three earned – in three innings. Relievers Erik Grunwald and Clint Marcus finished the game, collectively, for the T-Bones.

Winnipeg got to Balbuena early with three runs in the first inning. Wes Chamberlain drove in the first two when he dumped a bases-loaded, check-swing single into right field and came around to score when T.J. Soto followed with a single to left. The Goldeyes made it 4-0 in the second thanks to a sacrifice fly by Blair Barbier.

Ray Brown got the T-Bones (10-17) on the board in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to left field that brought Rick Prieto home to make the score 4-1. Casey Clary got the run back for the Goldeyes with a solo shot – one of three hits for the catcher – just over the wall in right field in the sixth.

The T-Bones inched closer in the seventh with back-to-back triples by Cody Nowlin and Jack Jones; but that’s as close as they would get. Winnipeg closed out the scoring with a pair of runs on a bloop single to left by Greg Morrison in the eighth and with two more on a double by Clary in the ninth.

The T-Bones will next hit the road for a three-game series at Schaumburg before returning home for a four-game set against Sioux Falls starting Wednesday night at 7:05.

Game Notes: One day after Goldeyes first base coach Tom Vaeth was ejected for disputing a call, Winnipeg second baseman Blair Barbier was forced to leave after arguing a called check swing by home plate umpire Todd Sheild. Barbier was removed from the game with a 1-2 count and was charged with the punch out when his replacement, Billy Zoffinger, went down on strikes… Balbuena was forced to leave the game after the third inning due to an injury. The right-hander is listed as day-to-day… With a 0-2 performance Thursday, Brown saw his 10-game hitting streak come to an end. With a walk in the second inning, the infielder has, however, reached base safely in 12 consecutive contests.
