T-Bones Sign Pitcher Rob Read

06/16/2004 2:20 PM - KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League signed reliever Rob Read Wednesday, team manager Al Gallagher announced. Read, who played college ball at Florida State, was a seventh-round draft choice of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2002.

Reed appeared in 33 games last year, including two starts, for the single-A affiliate of the Phillies organization in the South Atlantic League. The 6-foot-1, right hander went 2-4 with a 5.61 ERA with 73 strikeouts in 77 innings. In two minor league seasons, the 22-year-old fanned 116 in 144 innings pitched.

The T-Bones will continue their home series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:05 tonight. Kansas City, which enters play with a five-game winning streak, can set a new franchise high with its sixth consecutive victory.
