T-Bones Fight Back Late, Come Up Short,11-6

06/06/2004 4:10 PM - JOLIET, IL – The Joliet JackHammers (6-10) defeated the Kansas City T-Bones (5-12) 11-to-6 in front of 4.285 fans on Sunday evening at Silver Cross Field. The JackHammers ended their three-game losing streak. Through five games of this eight-game home stand, the JackHammers are 2-and-3. The JackHammers cranked out a season-high of 18 hits including the tying of a team record with seven doubles.

With two outs and nobody on base in the top of the 1st inning, Eddie Pearson (1-for-2) crushed his 5th home run and collected his 11th RBI for a 1-to-0 T-Bones lead. The JackHammers bounced back in the bottom of the 1st inning. Jermaine Allensworth (4-for-5) led off with a single to right-center field. John Lackaff (3-for-5) doubled to left field. Then, Josh Loggins (0-for-4) grounded out to the shortstop and drove in Allensworth for his 11th RBI. The score was tied at 1-to-1.

The JackHammers tallied back-to-back doubles to lead-off the bottom of the 3rd inning. Allensworth hit his to left field, his first of the season. Then, Lackaff grounded his double, his 2nd of the game and 5th on the season, down the left field line for an RBI. The JackHammers led 2-to-1. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the JackHammers connected for four consecutive singles. Rickie Morton’s (2-for-3) broken bat flare into right-center field scored Corey Paul (2-for-5) who had recorded a lead-off single. The JackHammers led 3-to-1.

The JackHammers sent 13 batters to the plate, recorded nine hits and scored eight runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Gabby Delgado (3-for-4) knocked in three runs in the inning with a double and single. Lackaff knocked in two on a double, and Jason Kinchen (1-for-5) drove in two with a double. The JackHammers led 11-to-1.

The T-Bones scored a pair in the top of the 7th inning and then trailed 11-to-3. Cody Nowlin (3-for-4) connected for his 2nd home run of the season to lead-off the inning. Later in the inning, Matt Ceriani (1-for-4) grounded out for an RBI as Jack Jones (1-for-4) scored. The T-Bones added three runs in the top of the 8th inning to make it an 11-to-6 game in favor of the JackHammers. Ray Brown (1-for-4) chipped in with a RBI single as did Nowlin and Chad Shindle (1-for-4).

JackHammers starting RHP Rich Hyde (3-0) earned the win pitching seven complete innings, allowed six hits, three runs (all earned), walked one and struck out six. He continues to reign as the Northern League’s all-time leader in wins with 76 and the JackHammers all-time leader with 23 wins. T-Bones starting RHP Jon McDonald (1-2) endured the loss as he worked 5.1 innings, allowed 12 hits, six runs (all earned), walked none and struck out six.
