Sadler Connect for Two Homers, Six RBI in Loss

08/16/2010 10:01 PM -

Ray Sadler hit two home runs and drove in six runs, but that was not enough for the Kansas City T-Bones (45-34) as they fell the 9-7 to the Winnipeg Goldeyes (40-39) Monday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

In front of 4,306 fans, the T-Bones took an early 1-0 lead when Keanon Simon hit a solo home run off Ace Walker (6-4) in the first. Winnipeg quickly answered in the second, scoring two runs off Kevin Light (3-1) on a two-run home run by Luis Alen.

A two-run home run by Sadler in the third gave Kansas City a 3-2 advantage, but a five-run fifth gave the Goldeyes a lead they would not relinquish. Vince Harrison and Dee Brown each collected RBI singles, and former T-Bone Aharon Eggleston drove in three with a bases-clearing double, bringing the score to 7-3 and chasing Light.

Light surrendered seven runs on 10 hits and four walks over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three in his first loss of the season.

After Rico Washington singled to begin the T-Bones half of the fifth, Sadler connected for his second two-run shot of the night, cutting Winnipeg’s lead to 7-5.

Casey Hodges recorded the final out in the fifth and then did not allow a hit until Kevin West singled to start the eighth. West scored one batter later on a two-run home run by Juan Diaz that extended the Goldeyes lead to 9-5. Hodges allowed two runs on five hits and one walk over three and one-thirds innings, striking out two.

The T-Bones added two runs in the ninth with a two-run single by Sadler off Bobby Korecky, capping the scoring at 9-7.

Erik Hamren threw a scoreless ninth for Kansas City, and Sadler finished the night four-for-five with two home runs, a triple and six RBI. Simon went three-for-four with a home run, double and one RBI.

The T-Bones send right-hander Cody McAllister (9-5, 4.45) to the mound opposite lefty Jason Mackintosh (1-3, 4.86) and the Winnipeg Goldeyes tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 7:05.  Catch all the action online at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
