Blackwood Pulls Weekly Honor Triple Play

08/16/2010 12:21 PM -

The Northern League has announced that Kansas City T-Bones second baseman Jacob Blackwood has been named Player of the Week for the third time this season, this time for the week ending August 15.

Blackwood, who is currently on pace to win the Northern League Triple Crown, batted .500 (14-for-28) with seven runs scored, two doubles, a league-high five home runs, and 11 RBI for the week. While hitting a home run on five different days, the highlight of the week was a four-hit, five-RBI performance in a battle for first place with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the T-Bones 19-7 victory on August 11.

The 6-0, 210-pounder, is playing his fifth season of professional baseball and second with the T-Bones. He first signed with Kansas City on June 25, 2009 and batted .288 over 63 games for the T-Bones last season. In a breakout 2010 campaign, he currently leads the league in batting (.344), home runs (25, tied), and RBI (73). The Northern League has not seen a Triple Crown winner since Anthony Lewis of the Duluth-Superior Dukes in 2000 accomplished the feat.

Blackwood was originally selected by the Florida Marlins in the 16th round of the 2006 amateur draft and played parts of four seasons in their organization. He was also drafted in the 40th round of the 2005 draft by the New York Mets, but did not sign. Blackwood previously received Player of the Week honors for the weeks ending May 31 and July 25 this season.
