T-Bones Drop Game, Series After Delayed Start

08/12/2010 7:24 PM -

After rain forced a five hour, 17 minute delay to the start of Thursday’s game, the Kansas City T-Bones (43-32) fell to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (43-30), 8-1, at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.

Cody McAllister (9-5, pictured) was perfect through his first five innings for Kansas City before an error by shortstop Jimmy Mojica allowed Zach Penprase to reach safely to begin the bottom of the sixth.  After a walk to Alan Rick, a sacrifice bunt by Carlo Cota turned into a double play when Penprase was thrown out attempting to score from second.  Rick moved to third on the play, and scored the first run of the game on a single by the next batter, Michael Coles.

Jim Fasano tied the game in the top of the seventh with a solo home run against Jake Laber (8-3).  Fargo quickly responded, retaking the lead in the bottom of the frame with three runs on four hits.  Jesse Hoorelbeke drove in the first run with an RBI double and later scored on a single by Jay Cox.  An RBI single from Rick then pushed the score to 4-1.

McAllister left with two on and two out in the seventh.  The right-hander surrendered four runs, three earned, on five hits in the loss.  Erik Hamren got the final out in the inning before allowing four runs on six hits in the eighth to cap the score at 8-1.

Laber allowed the lone run on just six hits over seven-plus innings in the victory.  Cox finished two-for-four with three RBI to pace Fargo.

Kansas City heads home for a six-game homestand, starting with a three-game set against the Rockford RiverHawks that begins tomorrow night.  The T-Bones will send left-hander Ryan Knippschild (7-6, 5.48) to face right-hander Brett Durand (7-6, 5.09) and Rockford.  First pitch is set for 7:05.  Catch all the action online at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
