Grunwald, T-Bones Shut Down Saints, 3-1

06/05/2004 4:04 PM - Behind 6.2 IP of one-run ball from starter Erik Grunwald and a tiebreaking double to right-center by Eddie Pearson, the Kansas City T-Bones beat the St. Paul Saints 3-1 to snap their six-game losing streak.

The T-Bones took an early lead, scoring in the second against St. Paul starter Kevin Foster, who pitched for the Chicago Cubs in the 1990's. Chris LePine singled in Chad Shindle to put the T-Bones up, 1-0.

Tonayne Brown tied up the game in the fourth with a solo shot against Grunwald, his second of the season. But Kansas City came right back with Pearson's double to score LePine and put the T-Bones up for good.

Kansas City got an insurance run in the seventh when Rick Prieto lifted a fly ball to center that Scott Samuels lost in the lights for a triple. Prieto scored on Cody Nowlin's single to make it 3-1.

Matt McClellan worked 1.1 IP of scoreless relief and D.J. Johnson hurled a scoreless ninth for his third save of the season.

The T-Bones take to the road for four games with Joliet and four with Gary. As well, members of the team's staff will be heading to Germany for a goodwill tour as part of "Operation American Pastime". Tomorrow night's game will be at 5:05 pm at Joliet, and will be carried live on All Comedy Radio 1340. Jon McDonald (1-1) will oppose Rich Hyde (2-0) of Joliet
