T-Bones Drop into Second with 13-3 Loss

08/10/2010 10:00 PM -

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (42-29) used 13 runs on 15 hits to coast to a 13-3 win over the Kansas City T-Bones (42-31) Tuesday night, giving them sole possession of first place in the Northern League.

The T-Bones scored first in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead against Matt Mossey (6-3) in the first inning.  Keanon Simon began the game with a single and advanced to second on a balk.  After stealing third base on a ball that sent Rico Washington to first with a walk, Simon stole home on a double steal while Washington took second base.

Mossey surrendered one more run in the contest on an RBI groundout by Simon in the fifth.  The right-hander earned his sixth win of the season after holding Kansas City to two runs on just two hits over seven solid innings.

Reid Santos (4-4) threw a scoreless first inning for the T-Bones but was touched for three runs on two hits and two walks in the second frame.  Fargo added three more runs in the third inning, using a two-run single by Zach Penprase to chase Santos from the game and take a 6-1 lead.

Santos surrendered six runs on four hits, four walks, and two hit batters over two and one-thirds innings in the loss.  Steven Stewart retired the final two batters in the third before surrendering an RBI single to Jeremiah Piepkorn in the fourth.  Stewart left following a three-run home run by Eric Campbell in the fifth that pushed the score to 11-2.

Casey Hodges and Francis Beltran combined to throw two and one-thirds scoreless innings of relief for Kansas City.  Jacob Blackwood added a solo home run to begin the top of the eighth, and Drew Shetrone surrendered a two-run single to Michael Coles in the bottom of the frame to cap the score at 13-3.

Zach Penprase went four-for-five to lead the RedHawks in hits.  Coles and Campbell paced Fargo with three RBI each.

The T-Bones look to snap a three-game skid as they send left-hander Kevin Light (2-0, 2.95) to face Fargo right-hander Tyler Seaman (1-1, 3.94) Wednesday night.  First pitch is set for 7:02.  Catch all the action online at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
