Rockford Scores Two in Ninth, T-Bones Drop Third Straight

07/30/2010 9:21 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (39-24) suffered their second straight walk-off loss, and third straight defeat overall, as the Rockford RiverHawks (28-34) scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to take game one of a three-game series, 7-6, at Road Ranger Stadium.

Rockford took a 5-0 lead after scoring five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first against Reid Santos.  RBI singles from Patrick O’Sullivan and Kevin House plated the first two tallies before a bases-clearing double from Evan McArthur finished the one-out surge.

Santos settled down, posting six scoreless frames over the rest of his outing before giving way to Casey Hodges in the eighth.  Santos surrendered five runs on nine hits while striking out three and walking three over his seven innings of work.

Kyle Wright held the T-Bones scoreless through the first three innings before a solo home run by Jim Fasano began a three-run fourth.  An RBI groundout from Eladio Rodriguez and run-scoring single from Jimmy Mojica capped off the inning and pulled Kansas City within two, 5-3.  The blast from Fasano pushed his hit streak to 20 games, tying him for the longest hit streak in the league this season.

A sacrifice fly from Ray Sadler pushed the score to 5-4 in the fifth before Brian Joynt tied the game at five with a solo shot to begin the sixth.  Wright finished the sixth before leaving in favor of Mike McTamney.  Wright allowed five runs on 11 hits over six innings while striking out four and walking one.

Neither starter factored into the decision.

Sadler gave the T-Bones their only lead of the contest with another sacrifice fly in the seventh, making the score 6-5.  After a perfect bottom of the eighth from Hodges, Steven Stewart (4-3) entered and quickly induced a popout to begin the ninth.  Following a walk, Richard Austin doubled home the tying run before scoring on a walk-off single by the next hitter, Jason James.  Stewart suffered the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning.

Scott Roehl (3-1) threw a scoreless top of the ninth to earn the victory.

The T-Bones look to snap a three-game losing streak tomorrow night as left-hander Kevin Light (2-0, 2.08) makes his first start of the season against right-hander Mike Wood (1-4, 5.65) and Rockford.  First pitch is set for 6:05.  Catch all the action online at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
