Kansas City Takes Sole Possession of First with 5-2 Win

07/02/2010 9:35 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (26-16) took over sole possession of first place with a 5-2 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (23-15) Friday night in front of 6,108 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Kansas City starter Ryan Knippschild (6-3, pictured) gave the T-Bones six and two-thirds solid innings in the contest, holding the RedHawks to just one run on eight hits in the victory. Fargo managed only three hits over the first four innings before picking up their first run on an RBI single by Kole Zimmerman in the fifth.

Knippschild left in favor of Kevin Light after surrendering consecutive two-out singles in the seventh.  Light induced a groundout from Zach Penprase to end the threat.

Kansas City opened the scoring off Fargo-Moorhead starter Scott Fogelson (4-2) when Keanon Simon tripled to open the T-Bones half of the first and later scored on a wild pitch. Ryan Fox started the second with a double and scored on a fielder’s choice groundout by Jimmy Mojica, giving the T-Bones a 2-0 lead after two innings.

Jim Fasano hit a solo home run in the fourth, his ninth of the year, increasing Kansas City’s lead to 3-0.  Fogelson gave way to newcomer Alex Kent after walking Simon with two out in the seventh.  Kent immediately surrendered an RBI double to Jacob Blackwood and run-scoring single to Rico Washington to push the score to 5-1.

Fogelson suffered the loss after allowing four runs on four hits while walking five and striking out six.

Light threw a scoreless eighth before Erik Hamren entered in the ninth.  The right-hander surrendered an RBI double to Mike Coles to cap the score at 5-2.

Kansas City continues the six-game homestand Saturday as right-hander Andrew Cruse (5-1, 1.33) takes the mound against Fargo right-hander Tyler Seaman (1-0, 4.50). Catch all the action through streaming webcast at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
