Cruse Stellar in T-Bones Debut

05/22/2010 8:04 PM -

Andrew Cruse (1-0, pictured) held the Gary SouthShore RailCats (0-3) to just two hits over six scoreless innings as the Kansas City T-Bones (3-0) won their third straight game to open the 2010 season, 4-1, at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, IN.

Cruse was solid in his outing as Gary failed to push a runner to second base until the bottom of the fifth inning.  After walking Adam Klein to put runners at first and second with one out in the frame, Cruse induced a flyout and groundout to end the threat.  A perfect sixth inning finished the right-hander’s outing.

Cruse walked three and struck out three in the victory.

Former major leaguer Brad Halsey (0-1) held Kansas City scoreless until the third inning.  Jimmy Mojica reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second with two outs.  On the play, the throw from catcher John Parham bounded into center and allowed Mojica to advance to third.  A single by Keanon Simon then gave the T-Bones a 1-0 advantage.

Halsey was charged with one unearned run on two hits over five innings in the loss.

RBI singles by Jacob Blackwood and Rico Washington pushed Kansas City’s lead to 3-0 in the sixth.  Eladio Rodriguez capped off the T-Bones’ scoring with a solo home run off reliever James Baker in the seventh.

Kevin Light made his first appearance for the T-Bones in relief of Cruse, holding Gary to just one hit over two scoreless innings.  Drew Graham allowed one unearned run on two hits and an error in the ninth to close out the contest.

Kansas City goes for a four-game sweep tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 as left-hander Reid Santos faces off against RailCats right-hander Zach McClellan.  Catch all the action through streaming webcast at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
