T-Bones Sign Rookie Hurler to Bolster Bullpen

03/17/2010 7:52 AM -

The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Tim Doherty have signed rookie pitcher Steven Stewart to a contract for the 2010 season.

Stewart, 23, comes to Kansas City after two seasons in the Washington Nationals organization.  Originally signed as a nondrafted free agent in 2008, Stewart appeared in 40 games from 2008-09 as a reliever with Vermont of the New York-Penn League, the Nationals’ Class A short-season affiliate.  Over the course of 64 and one-thirds innings with Vermont, Stewart allowed just 61 hits while striking out 53 and walking 26.  He posted a 3.64 ERA and held opponents to a .249 average in that span.

“Steven is a right-hander that puts good sink on the baseball,” said Doherty.  “He will add depth to the backend of our bullpen.”

The T-Bones begin their 2010 campaign against the RailCats in Gary, IN on May 20 and will host the RedHawks in their home opener on May 28.  Season ticket packages and mini plans are available now by calling 913-328-5618.  For information on group outings, call 913-328-5623.  Single game tickets for the exhibition and regular season will go on sale later this month.  Visit www.tbonesbaseball.com to stay up-to-date throughout the year.
