Doherty Adds Two More to 2010 Squad

02/10/2010 1:33 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Tim Doherty added two more players to the 2010 roster today with the signing of pitcher Kevin Light and the acquisition of outfielder Keanon Simon.

Light, 22, signed with the Washington Nationals as an undrafted free agent out of Bowling Green State University in 2008.  He spent two seasons as a reliever in the Nationals organization, posting a 5-2 record with a 3.76 ERA in 103 innings.  The left-hander walked just 46 batters while striking out 98 in that span.

“He is a solid left-handed pitcher,” said Doherty.  “He will enter camp with the chance to win a job as a starter, but could contribute as a long-reliever and lefty-specialist as well.”

The T-Bones also added Simon, 25, in a trade with the Amarillo Dillas of the independent United League.  Amarillo will receive a player to be named later.  Simon was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 25th round of the 2007 amateur draft.  After two seasons in the organization, Simon was released and signed with Amarillo in June last season.  Over 71 games with the Dillas, Simon posted a .352/.431/.478 line while stealing 32 bases in 34 attempts.  He was voted by fans as the team’s Most Valuable Player following the Dillas’ second consecutive championship season.

“Simon is a leadoff guy that brings good speed and defense to the team,” Doherty added.  “He has big shoes to fill in (Aharon) Eggleston but he is a hard-nosed, quality player that should do well in Kansas City.”

The T-Bones begin their 2010 campaign in Gary, Ind. on May 20 and will host the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in their home opener on May 28.  Season ticket packages and mini plans are available now by calling 913-328-5618.  For information on group outings, call 913-328-5623.  Single game tickets for the exhibition and regular season will go on sale in March.  Visit www.tbonesbaseball.com to stay up-to-date throughout the year.
