04/25/2005 2:36 PM - KANSAS CITY – In the 80’s TV show “The A*Team,” “Hannibal” Smith’s signature line at the end of the show was “I love it when a plan comes together.” In recent weeks, “Dirty” Al Gallagher has been sitting in his office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark uttering the same thing.

Thursday, the T-Bones announced the signing of three pitchers: returning T-Bone Jonathan Krysa and newcomers Joe Goodmann and Nick Webb. The trio are the third, fourth, and fifth pitchers signed by Gallagher in recent weeks, along with 2004 T-Bones Jon McDonald and Derek Forbes. As well, Gallagher also inked 2004 catcher Matt Ceriani and rookies Sean Flynn and Johnny Camp.

Krysa, 26, and McDonald, 27, were first and second in the Northern League respectively in games started by a pitcher. Krysa posted a 9-7 record in his second season as a T-Bone, recording a 3.10 ERA, good for fourth best in the league. Along the way, Krysa set records for games started, innings pitched, and batters faced; in his August 21 start against Lincoln, he proved his mettle with a 163-pitch complete game win. The native of Lee’s Summit, MO, is back for his third season with the T-Bones, and in five years of pro ball is 20-24 with a 3.52 ERA.

McDonald was another anchor of the T-Bones staff in his first full year in Kansas City. Originally a product of the Minnesota Twins’ farm system, McDonald recorded a 9-8 record for the T-Bones with a 3.94 ERA. In 141.2 innings of work, McDonald struck out 87 while walking just 37, and opponents hit .277 against him. As well, on July 14 against Sioux Falls, McDonald tied the team record (earlier set by Krysa) for strikeouts (11) in just seven innings of work. In five professional seasons following his career at Florida State, McDonald is 32-28 with a 4.51 ERA.

Forbes, 26, joined the squad in late June and enjoyed the best season of his pro career, posting a 2-1 mark with a 3.21 ERA. Late in the season, he served as the closer for the T-Bones, earning the first three saves of his pro career. Originally a 37th round pick of Arizona in the 1999 draft, Forbes is 8-10 in five professional seasons.

Goodmann, 28, and Webb, 25, are both candidates for spots on the staff. Goodmann has spent all five of his professional seasons in independent leagues, making 108 appearances, all but one out of the bullpen. In 2004, he recorded a 5-3 record with seven saves for the Edinburg Roadrunners of the Central League, crafting a spectacular 1.17 ERA in 46.0 IP. Webb, a southpaw, was a ninth-round pick out of Louisiana-Lafayette in 2000 by the Rockies and spent five years in their system both as a starter and reliever. His best season as a pro was 2001, when he was 9-5, 3.33 with the Asheville Tourists of the South Atlantic League. In five professional seasons, Webb is 22-18 with a 4.59 ERA.

Ceriani, 28, caught 71 games for the T-Bones in 2004, batting .247 with six home runs and 30 RBI. His biggest contributions, however, came behind the plate, where he was fourth in the league in fielding percentage (.987) and had the fewest passed balls among catchers with at least fifty games played. In seven professional seasons spent among ten teams, Ceriani has batted .257 with 28 HR and 175 RBI.

Flynn, also a catcher, spent last season with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League, hitting .228 with 8 HR and 37 RBI in 78 games. He’s no stranger to Kansas, having spent his senior season playing for Coach Ritchie Price at the University of Kansas. Infielder Camp was signed by the T-Bones out of the Northern League tryout camp earlier this month and played his college baseball at Bellevue (Neb.) University.

“We’re excited to have three strong pitchers returning to the staff,” said Gallagher. “And Matt Ceriani was a huge part of our success on the mound last season, so we’re very fortunate he’s returning. Spring training will be an exciting time with so many strong players contending for jobs.”
