T-Bones Drop Pitcher’s Duel, 2-1

07/29/2009 11:07 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (28-38) dropped their fourth straight game against the Winnipeg Goldeyes (41-23) tonight, 2-1, in front of 5,208 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Both starters went the distance in the contest, with Ace Walker (8-3) earning his league-leading eighth victory of the season for Winnipeg.  Kansas City scored their lone run against the right-hander in the third inning, starting the frame with a single by Jacob Blackwood.  After advancing to second on an infield single by Jeff Helps and to third on a throwing error by Cody Ehlers, Blackwood scored on a sacrifice fly from Aharon Eggleston.

Walker allowed one run on eight hits while striking out eight in his seven innings of work.  Following Eggleston’s sacrifice fly, Kansas City pushed just one more runner to second base.  Walker improved his Northern League-best ERA to 2.85 with his outing.  He also pushed his league-leading complete games total to four.

Ryan Knippschild (3-4) allowed just two runs on five hits while striking out six in the loss.  The left-hander didn’t allow a walk over his seven innings of work.  After retiring 15 of his first 17 batters, Knippschild surrendered a leadoff double to Jeff DeSmidt in the sixth.  Adam Frost then sacrificed the runner to second before Josh Asanovich hit his third home run of the season to give the Goldeyes a 2-1 advantage.

Knippschild hit the next batter, Juan Diaz, but retired four of the next five to close out the game.  Tonight’s outing marked the first career complete game for the former University of Kansas hurler.

Greg Jacobs was three-for-three with three singles in the game.  Aharon Eggleston extended his on-base streak to 25 games and his hit streak to 13 with a one-for-three performance.  His on-base streak is the third longest in the league this season.

Chris Rhoads (4-3, 5.40) will try to prevent a sweep for Kansas City against Bear Bay (6-2, 3.43) and the Goldeyes tomorrow morning.  First pitch is set for 11:05.  Tomorrow is Kansas City Star Family Day where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, four peanuts and four sodas for just $40.  Single-game tickets for the T-Bones are still available and start at just $6.  For more information, call 913-328-5618 or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com
