Goldeyes Finish Off Suspended Game with Victory

07/28/2009 8:42 PM -

Picking up from where they left off on June 23, the Kansas City T-Bones and Winnipeg Goldeyes completed a suspended game tonight with the Goldeyes earning a 5-4 victory over 12 total innings.

On June 23, the two teams made it through 10 innings before lightning forced the suspension with one out in the top of the 11th.  An RBI single by Jeff Helps plated the T-Bones first run against Ace Walker in the second inning and Ryan Fox pushed the score to 2-0 with an RBI triple in the third.  Helps singled again to begin the fourth for Kansas City and later scored on a throwing error by Walker.  Aharon Eggleston singled later in the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Craig Hurba for a 4-0 T-Bones advantage.

Winnipeg retaliated with a four-run sixth against Ryan Knippschild, plating the first on an RBI double by Josh Asanovich.  Kevin West followed with a three-run home run to tie the game at four.

The game would stay tied until the game was suspended with a 0-2 count on Dustin Richardson.  Derek Duclos took the mound for Kansas City tonight when the game resumed and induced a foulout to Richardson.  Following a walk, Duclos struck out the next batter to end the frame.

Juan Diaz homered with two out in the 12th to push the final to 5-4.  Duclos took the loss after allowing one run on one hit over one and two-thirds innings.  Jordan Stewart, who threw two scoreless innings on June 23, returned for the suspended game and threw two scoreless tonight to finish the game for Winnipeg.  He earned the victory after surrendering three hits over four scoreless frames.
