Kevin West (pictured, right) and Cody Ehlers captained the charge for Winnipeg (33-23) again tonight, combining to drive in all five Goldeye runs as they defeated the Kansas City T-Bones (26-32), 5-4, at Canwest Park.

Kansas City took a 2-0 lead against Mark Michael (1-2) in the top of the first with three hits and an error, scoring their runs on back-to-back RBI singles by Craig Hurba and Jim Fasano.  Aharon Eggleston (pictured, center) scored on Hurba’s basehit after starting the game with a first-pitch double.  Damian Rolls reached when Michael misplayed his sacrifice bunt attempt and came home on Fasano’s single.

Derek Duclos (0-1), signed prior to the game by the T-Bones, threw a scoreless first before walking the first two batters in the bottom of the second.  The next batter, Ehlers, gave Winnipeg their first and final lead off the contest with a three-run home run.  Ehlers capped off last night’s game with a two-run walkoff shot.  He finished tonight’s game one-for-four with three RBI.

West hit his fourth home run of the series in the third inning, following up a leadoff double by Juan Diaz to push the Goldeyes ahead by three, 5-2.  West finished the game one-for-two with two RBI and is now four-for-five with four home runs and five RBI in the first two games of the three-game set.

Duclos settled down following West’s blast, retiring 12 of his next 13 hitters before surrendering a leadoff walk to Dustin Richardson in the seventh.  The right-hander left following the walk and took the loss in his debut after allowing five runs on five hits over six-plus innings of work.

Michael surrendered a home run to Ryan Fox to begin the fourth for the T-Bones third run of the game.  Rolls plated Eggleston with a single in the fifth to cap the score at 5-4.  Michael, who spent part of last season with Kansas City, earned his first win of the season after allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits over six innings.

Jordan Stewart threw a scoreless ninth to secure his first save of the season.

Cody McAllister (one and one-thirds) and Payton Tweddale (two-thirds) combined to throw two scoreless innings in relief of Duclos.  Following West’s home run in the third, Winnipeg did not get another hit until the bottom of the eighth.  The Goldeyes saw just two baserunners in that span before two walks and a fielder’s choice allowed three men to reach in the eighth.

Eggleston finished three-for-five with two doubles and two runs scored for Kansas City.  He has hit safely in seven straight games and has three consecutive multi-hit contests.  His average is now at .300 for the first time since June 17 thanks to a .394 mark through 16 games this month.

Kansas City looks to avoid a sweep tomorrow night as they send Dustin Bolton (3-2, 6.02) and his 14-inning scoreless streak to the mound opposite Andrew Cruse (4-3, 5.27) and the Goldeyes.  First pitch is set for 6:00.
