Fasano Earns Player of the Week Honors

07/13/2009 1:13 PM -

The Northern League has announced that Kansas City T-Bones first baseman Jim Fasano has been named Player of the Week for the week ending July 12.

Fasano, who is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak, posted a .444 (8-for-18) mark with seven runs scored, three doubles, one home run, and nine RBI in the week. He scored a run in all four games, and had five and four RBI respectively on July 9th and 11th versus the RedHawks.  Fasano is batting .333 during the month of July.

Last year, Fasano led the Northern League in home runs (20), total bases (196), extra-base hits (49), and was tied for the league lead in RBI (84). He was also named to the 2008 Northern League Post-Season All-Star Team (Designated Hitter) and was twice honored as the Player of the Week.

The 6-5, 230-pounder signed with the T-Bones in 2008 after playing four seasons in the Texas Rangers organization.  He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the ninth round of the 2004 amateur draft as a junior out of the University of Richmond.  With the Spiders, he was the Atlantic-10 Player of the Year in 2003 after batting .344 with 16 home runs and 68 RBI.  He followed-up that season leading the A-10 with 18 home runs while batting .316 and driving in 62 runs in 2004.

Kansas City is currently in Gary, Ind. for a four-game set against the RailCats.  Catch all the action on KXTR 1660 AM or through the listen live link at www.tbonesbaseball.com
