T-Bones Settle for Series Split with 9-8 Loss

07/12/2009 8:48 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (24-25) dropped the final contest of a four-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (23-24), 9-8, tonight at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Cody McAllister (4-1) issued walks to the first two batters of the game in front of 4,426 fans, setting the stage for a two-run double by Nic Jackson that gave Fargo an early lead.  Carlo Cota walked to start the second and advanced to second on a wild pitch.   He then scored on an RBI single by Alan Rick for the first of four runs in the frame.  The RedHawks added three more on another double by Jackson, pushing the score to 6-0.

The T-Bones responded in the bottom of the second with four runs off Garry Bakker.  Jim Fasano walked to leadoff Kansas City’s half of the frame and moved to second on a passed ball.  A single by Neb Brown pushed him to third and he scored on a Mark Minicozzi double.  An RBI single by Jacob Blackwood drove in Brown, and a two-run double by Aharon Eggleston (pictured) brought Kansas City within two.

After surrendering a double to Justin Justice and inducing a groundout from Cota, McAllister left after two and one-thirds innings in favor of Weston Curles.  The right-hander suffered his first loss of the season after allowing seven runs on five hits in the outing.  An RBI double by Rick scored Justice, giving Fargo a 7-4 advantage.  The RedHawks added two runs in the fifth off Chris Rhoads on an RBI double by Cota and a groundout by Mike Coles, making the score 9-4.

Craig Hurba and Fasano hit back-to-back singles to start the T-Bones half of the fifth, and Ryan Fox was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Brown drew a walk to push Hurba across, and a sacrifice fly by Minicozzi scored Fasano.  A double by Eggleston added two more runs, capping the scoring on the night at 9-8.

Payton Tweddale induced a double play from Justice to end the sixth and threw a clean seventh for Kansas City.  Justin James added two perfect innings to finish the game for the T-Bones.

Elvys Quezada earned the win after throwing one inning of relief for Fargo.  T.J. Stanton earned his second save of the year with a perfect ninth.

Nic Jackson paced the RedHawks, going four-for-five with two doubles and five RBI.  Eggleston finished the night two-for-five with two doubles and four RBI.  Tonight was the third consecutive game in which a T-Bones player collected multiple doubles.

The T-Bones will now travel to Gary, Ind. for a four-game series against the RailCats.  Dustin Bolton (2-2, 7.80) gets the start for Kansas City against a pitcher to be determined.  Game one of the series begins at 7:00 tomorrow night.
