Fox Named Player of the Week

07/07/2009 11:26 PM -

The Northern League has announced that Ryan Fox has been named Player of the Week for the week ending July 5.

Fox, who smacked six home runs in five days, batted .308 (eight-for-26) with eight runs scored, six home runs, and 13 RBI in the week. He collected an RBI in six of seven games, including seven on July 3 at Schaumburg. His power surge during the week catapulted him into the league lead with 16 home runs, five more than the next closest active player. On the year, he is now batting .268 and has 34 RBI in 44 games played.

The six-year veteran is in his first year with the T-Bones. He was signed by Kansas City as a free agent on February 13, 2009 after having spent parts of the previous three seasons playing in the United and Golden Leagues. With Rio Grande (United League) in 2007, he established a new league record with 23 home runs. With 78 career home runs to date, more than a quarter of his hits have been round-trippers (78 of 291).

The 6-3, 230-pounder was originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 21st round of the 2003 amateur draft. He played parts of four seasons in the Rockies organization, including two seasons as a pitcher. Fox played collegiately at the University of Arkansas.
