Kansas City Grabs Game Two of Twinbill, 2-0

06/03/2009 5:10 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (9-8) earned a series victory against the Winnipeg Goldeyes (12-5) with a 2-0 win in game two of today’s doubleheader at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Justin James (2-2) surrendered just one hit in seven innings for Kansas City, leading the way to the T-Bones’ first shutout of the year.  Kevin West singled off James to begin the fourth, but the right-hander induced three groundouts to end the inning.  James faced the minimum in four frames and struck out six to earn the victory.

Andrew Cruse (1-1) threw five shutout innings for Winnipeg, allowing just two hits, singles by Greg Jacobs and Jim Fasano, before Damian Rolls reached on an error to lead off the sixth inning.  After Jacobs flew out to left for the first out, Craig Hurba hit his fifth home run of the season.  The two-run shot accounted for the only runs of the game.

Cruse left in favor of Aaron Odom after Hurba’s home run.  Odom gave up a double to Fasano and a walk to Brad Correll, but struck out the next two batters to end the inning.  Cruse was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on three hits over five and one-thirds innings.

The T-Bones travel tomorrow before beginning their second road trip of the season with a three-game series against the Schaumburg Flyers on Friday.  Ryan Knippschild is scheduled to pitch for Kansas City against a pitcher to be determined.  First pitch is set for 6:45.
