The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Andy McCauley have announced the signing of outfielder Greg Jacobs to a contract for the 2009 season.  Infielder Neb Brown has also been activated from the inactive list.

Jacobs, 32, was originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 13th round of the 1998 amateur draft.  After seven seasons as a professional, the slugger joined the T-Bones in June 2005.  He finished the year in Kansas City with a .348 (89-for-256) batting average.  Following 2006, when Jacobs hit .333 (111-for-333) with the T-Bones, his contract was purchased by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Jacobs played in the Phillies organization for one year and then moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers system for the beginning of the 2008 season before rejoining the T-Bones in the middle of July.  He began the 2009 season with Tabasco of the Mexican League.

“Greg has proven himself as an offensive force in this league,” said McCauley.  “He will solidify the middle of our lineup and we are glad to have him back for the 2009 season.”

In his previous stints with Kansas City, Jacobs holds a .350 career batting average and a .594 career slugging percentage, both franchise records.  He is in the top five in seven other career franchise offensive categories for the T-Bones, including doubles, triples, home runs, runs scored, total bases and walks.  He is also the career leader for Kansas City (since the team’s move in 2003) with a .437 on-base percentage.

In his season debut, Jacobs went three-for-four with two doubles and an RBI.

Neb Brown is another new addition to the T-Bones active roster.  The infielder has been on the inactive list since the beginning of the season.  Brown, in his third year with Kansas City, holds a .302 career mark with 15 home runs and 97 RBI as T-Bone. 

To make room for Jacobs and Brown, Ken Harvey and John Urick were released.
