The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Andy McCauley are happy to announce the return of All-Star closer David Trahan and utility man Eric Scriven for the 2009 season.

Trahan, 28, returns to the team following an outstanding 2008 campaign.  The former Expos/Nationals farmhand appeared in 35 games for the T-Bones last season, finishing 33 of those contests.  Trahan punched out 27 batters in his 34 and two-thirds innings of work on his way to a franchise-record 20 saves.

“David is coming off a great 2008 season,” said McCauley.  “He’s one of the best closers in the league and he will help solidify our bullpen again in 2009.”

Originally drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 11th round of the 2004 amateur draft, Trahan spent four years in the organization before his release prior to last season.  In his first season in independent baseball, Trahan was named to the I-29 All-Star Team where he struck out two of the three batters he faced in a perfect ninth inning.  He capped off the season with a strikeout of Eric Blakeley to clinch the Northern League Championship for Kansas City.

Scriven, 25, began the season with the Joliet JackHammers before joining Kansas City in a trade for a player to be named on June 11.  In 60 games with the T-Bones, the Seattle native hit .249 with three home runs and 21 RBI.  He played six different positions for Kansas City, but spent 37 of the 60 games in left field.

“Eric is a solid utility player that can contribute in a lot of different areas,” McCauley added.  “As he enters his third season, we look for him to compete for a starting position and take on a larger role.”
